For those who enjoy the full story, enjoy learning all about me below.
As you have likely gathered, my name is Crystal Prescott. Originally from southern Mississippi and now a Dallas, Texas transplant, I am a marketing professional passionate about crafting compelling campaigns, fostering meaningful connections, and driving impact wherever I go. I thrive when I am being challenged, have a deep appreciation for mentorship, and welcome roles that provide chances to grow. With strong communication, organizational, and strategic thinking skills, I’m efficient, detail-oriented, and always eager to learn.
After graduating with my bachelor's in communication studies from the University of Southern Mississippi, I moved to Dallas to experience life to its fullest, personally and professionally. Focusing on professional growth, I started my career journey in the corporate financial marketing space with Cottonwood Financial (Cash Store). During this time, I obtained knowledge from industry subject matter experts that guided me on my career path. I was allotted the opportunity to be the marketing director's right-hand, serving as the marketing administrative assistant, supporting the Cash Store brand. I collaborated closely with senior marketing professionals to execute strategies for customer acquisition and retention campaigns. I managed marketing materials for over 250 storefronts, monitored a daily website report, and audited and reported Google search spam listings that helped increase keyword rankings for the Cash Store brand. Reflecting on this time, I'm confident I gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of all areas within marketing.
While I loved the structured lifestyle that comes with a corporate career, I believed it was time to expand and be exposed to new environments and markets that aligned with my interests. During the COVID-19 pandemic, as everyone experienced, life shifted, and I found myself wanting to find community. Oddly enough, I stumbled upon an opportunity in non-profit marketing. I found the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) serving the respiratory therapy community and took a chance to apply for their marketing coordinator position. This opportunity allowed me to work in conjunction with Respiratory Therapists, who served on the front lines of defense against the COVID-19 pandemic. After accepting the position, I quickly onboarded and trained to complete the job responsibilities of the marketing coordinator position. I was also allowed to be trained on the marketing manager's responsibilities and serve as the interim marketing manager while that leader was out on maternity leave. During this time, I was able to step up as a team leader and drive the marketing department. My daily responsibilities had me managing the content creation for the website, email development and distribution, owning the marketing project initiatives, and social media engagement. It was this opportunity that opened my eyes to what I was able to accomplish. This organization emphasized my passion to work within an organization that allows me to grow as a professional and give back to a community.
Life took an unexpected turn when I suffered a serious elbow injury, leading me to undergo extensive physical therapy. This quickly shifted my schedule to now accommodating weekly physical therapy appointments, daily physical therapy exercises, and balancing expanded responsibilities for the AARC. In my recovery window, I engaged with various physicians, physician assistants, and physical therapists. I had engaging conversations and learned a lot about what it means to be in that space. While exploring healthcare associations, I found the global nonprofit association the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) looking to fill an Email Marketing Specialist position. It felt like the universe was pushing me towards that community. I applied, interviewed, and eventually accepted the position to serve the rehabilitation community.
At ACRM, it was my responsibility to draft content and design email campaigns for a variety of audiences (members, prospects, industry supporters, and community groups) and products (meetings, journals, conferences, exhibits, sponsorships, advertising, and training). I developed high-volume, email campaigns, led nurturing campaigns, and created real-time personalization of email blasts. I monitored engagement rates and used data analytics to respond to trends and maximize email marketing efforts. Having the opportunity to give back to the community that served me personally, I felt I accomplished more than just a job responsibility. This organization provided me with in-depth hands-on experience not only email marketing but also in-person event strategy. I had the chance to communicate directly with the community leaders, participate in on-site planning meetings, sit in educational sessions, serve industry partners and so much more. This organization lit a fire under me to grow individually and gain clarity on the career path I aspire to reach.
While I am now in the market for new career possibilities, I am forever grateful for these positions I've been able to hold. I am taking this time to make an effort to stay relevant in my field by participating in certification programs, regularly attending online conferences, and staying connected with industry thought leaders. That’s how I’m able to make sure I produce the best results in a constantly evolving digital world. I am always eager to find professional development trainings in all facets of digital content. I’ve been lucky to work with a variety of industry partners, and I’ve learned something new from every organization and industry I've been able to work alongside. I am actively applying to new opportunities where I can apply my expertise in digital marketing, email campaigns, and audience engagement. I look forward to connecting with like-minded professionals and continuing to grow in this ever-evolving industry. Lastly, I welcome feedback and any upcoming challenges that may be on the horizon.
